About GMC C2500 HD

The GMC Sierra HD pickups are capable of pulling a Herculean amount of weight, but that’s not all they do to live up to their Herculean name. These high-powered workhorses are also quite presentable, as they feature chrome accents on the exterior and a leather saddle that provides a comfortable ride on the interior. The Sierra 2500HD and 3500HD are the jumbo-shrimp versions of their half-ton equivalent, the Sierra 1500, which was evaluated in a separate article. When compared to the Chevrolet Silverado HD lineup, the level of luxury and finish found in these GMC pickups is significantly higher.

The standard powertrain consists of a 6.6-liter V-8 with 401 horsepower and a 10-speed automatic transmission. However, in order to achieve the Sierra HD’s maximum conventional towing capacity of 22,500 pounds, an optional 445-horsepower Duramax turbodiesel V-8 with a 10-speed automatic transmission is required. Additional trailer assist features, such as Transparent Trailer View and Trailer Side Blind Zone Alert, as well as an available adaptive cruise control system that works with trailering, allow the Sierra HD to work smarter rather than harder. Despite the fact that the heavy-duty Sierra does not have the polish or maximum towing capacity of competitors like the Ram HD or the Ford Super Duty, it is a good option for people who have a truck-sized hole in their hearts.

The most powerful pickup offered by GMC has received a subtle exterior facelift in addition to larger updates, such as a redesigned powertrain that provides increased towing capacity and an all-new trim level. The front fascia of the Sierra HDs has been updated, and they now have LED headlights and taillights that have sequential turn signals as optional extras. Both the power and torque of the 6.6-liter Duramax turbocharged diesel V-8 have increased, now coming in at 470 horsepower and 975 pound-feet of torque, respectively.

As a result of the increase in power, the towing capacity of the entire lineup of Sierra 2500HD and 3500HD pickup trucks has increased, and the new maximum rating for the hitch is 22,500 pounds. The six-speed automatic transmission that was previously standard on the 401-horsepower, 6.6-liter V-8 gas engine has been swapped out for the Allison-certified 10-speed automatic transmission that was only available on the diesel engine.

The popular Denali tier has been joined by an all-new Denali Ultimate trim, which is now available for both the 2500HD and the 3500HD. This new trim offers an even higher level of luxury than its predecessor. In the same way that it does for the Sierra 1500, the Denali Ultimate adds leather wrapping to the door panels, steering wheel, and handles for the A and B pillars. Intricate leather stitching with a topographic map of Mount Denali in Alaska is added to the front seats, which are also power-adjustable in 16 different ways and come with heated and cooled messaging front seats.
