About Chevrolet Silverado 3500 Classic

The Silverado nameplate was first used for the 1975 model year, at which time it also became the highest available trim level for all Chevrolet C/K pickup trucks, placing it in a position of prominence above the Custom Deluxe, Scottsdale, and Cheyenne models. During the same time period, GMC C/K pickups utilized several variants of the Sierra moniker (Sierra, Sierra Classic, Sierra Grande, and High Sierra). Today, Chevrolet still utilizes the CK and the CC in their current model codes to signify a two-wheel rear drive (CC) or a four-wheel drive, respectively. CK stands for “compact knucklehead” (CK).

For the GMT400 model architecture that was introduced in 1988, Chevrolet maintained the C/K model nomenclature, while GMC branded its full-size line as Sierras. Both brands used the GMT400 platform. Although they share their chassis and bodywork, the Chevrolet Silverado and Sierra have different model chronologies. The Sierra has had five generations whereas the Silverado has only had four.

The 2007 Chevrolet Silverado Classic Heavy Duty trucks come in a variety of configurations to meet a variety of work applications, including towing horse trailers, working on construction sites, and daily commercial duty.

The HD trucks are available with three different engines. A 6.0L V8 with 345 horsepower and 380 pound-feet of torque is standard across the HD lineup, while an 8.1L V8 with 330 horsepower and 450 pound-feet of torque is optional, as is a new version of the 6.6L Duramax turbo-diesel V8 with 360 horsepower and 650 pound-feet of torque. When the engine is cold, an intake-air heater helps to decrease smoke and pollutants.

The engines can be paired with a five-speed manual transmission, a four-speed Hydra-Matic automatic transmission, or a six-speed Allison automatic transmission, depending on the model. The five-speed manual transmission is standard on all 2500HD cars but optional on select 3500 versions.

The HD trucks are available in three box lengths, three cab types, and two wheel drive or four wheel drive. The crew cab comes with either the short or long box on 2500HD models, whereas the regular cab only comes with the long box and the extended cab comes with either the standard or long box. 3500 versions are only available with the long box, in standard, extended, or crew cab configurations.

The 2500 versions can tow payloads weighing up to 4,058 pounds, while the 3500 variants can tow payloads weighing up to 5,511 pounds.

3500 models are available with SRW (single rear wheel) and DRW (double rear wheel) configurations, which give increased stability when towing big loads. The DRW model, when properly equipped, can tow a trailer weighing up to 13,000 pounds with a normal hitch and up to 16,000 pounds with a fifth-wheel hitch.

The HD Silverados, like the light-duty Silverado Classic, vary significantly inside, from the most basic Work Truck (WT) trim all the way up to the top LT2 and LT3 equipment levels. For example, the LT3 comes standard with dual-zone automatic climate control, cruise control, leather power seats, steering wheel controls, an overhead console, and a high-end music system with a six-disc changer. Optional interior features include power-adjustable pedals and a reverse detecting system, but the options list is lengthy and primarily consists of serious gear to outfit the HD for duty, like as skid plates or a snow-plow prep package.
