About Chevrolet Volt
The Chevrolet Volt is a plug-in hybrid vehicle manufactured by General Motors. It is also known as the Holden Volt in Australia and New Zealand, the Buick Velite 5 in China, and the Vauxhall Ampera in the United Kingdom and the Opel Ampera in the rest of Europe. Volt manufacture came to an end in February 2019.
The 2011 Volt went on sale in the United States in mid-December 2010, followed by Europe and other international markets in 2011. By the end of October 2018, global combined Volt/Ampera-family sales totaled around 177,000 units. The United States is the market leader, with 157,054 Volts provided through the end of 2019, followed by Canada, which sold 16,653 Volts through September 2018. As of June 2016, approximately 10,000 Opel/Vauxhall Ampera vehicles had been sold in Europe. The Volt/Ampera family of automobiles was the world’s best-selling plug-in hybrid vehicle until December 2018.
The Volt is a pure battery electric vehicle until its battery capacity falls below a predefined threshold after a full charge. The internal combustion engine then drives an electric generator, extending the vehicle’s range as needed.
