About Chevrolet Venture

The Venture was released in 1996 as a successor for the drastically styled Lumina APV for the 1997 model year. It was also sold in the United States as the Oldsmobile Silhouette and the Pontiac Trans Sport, which was eventually renamed the Pontiac Montana for 1999. (2000 in Canada). The Venture was available in three trim levels: basic, LS, and LT. The Venture’s base models were short wheelbase cars with cloth upholstery, front bucket seats with fixed head restraints, a second-row 2-passenger bench seat, and steel wheels. The LS was available with both short and long wheelbases, aluminum wheels, a variety of seating configurations, adjustable head restraints, side airbags, power windows (optional on base models), and a remote keyless entry system. The LT model was an upscale of the LS and was only available in long wheelbase form. It included a motorized driver seat (optional on the base and LS models), optional leather seats, a roof rack (optional on the base and LS models), and a driver side sliding door (optional on the base and LS models from 1997 to 1999). From 1996 to 2002, anti-lock brakes were standard on all Ventures, but they were later made optional on the lowest models.

The Venture and its siblings were powered by GM’s 3.4 L LA1 V6, which produced 180 horsepower (134 kW). The engine was somewhat altered after 1999 to provide an additional 5 hp (4 kW), for a total of 185 hp (138 kW), and the alarm system for seatbelts, door ajar, low gasoline, and so on was changed. A four-speed automatic transmission was standard on all Ventures.
