About Chevrolet K1500

The Chevrolet C/K1500 received a new exterior aesthetic package known as the Sport Equipment Package in the 1989 model year. The exterior was given a black grille and side mirrors, body-color bumpers, and “Sport” bedside and tailgate decals. The option package was available in monochrome black, red, or white paint. It was paired with the 612-foot Fleetside truck bed and Silverado interior trim.

The front bumper of models equipped with two-wheel drive featured a black air dam (fitted with fog lamps), and the 15-inch styled steel wheels featured chrome plating. The 4×4 versions of the Sport Equipment Package were possible to be paired with the Z71 package, and they were painted solely in white. The “Sport” graphics were replaced by “4×4”, and the fenders gained black wheel flares in keeping with the 2500/3500-series trucks.

In contrast to the higher-performing 454SS, the Sport Equipment Package was available with the 4.3 L V6 and 5.0 L V8 engines. In 1994, a 5.7 L V8 replaced the 5.0 L V8 as the standard engine size for the Sport Equipment Package. The two-wheel drive models were provided with an enhanced ZQ8 heavy-duty suspension as an available option. This upgrade featured heavy-duty shocks in addition to high-ratio steering.

The package was only available for purchase with the Fleetside bed from 1989 to 1992; beginning in 1993, Chevrolet began offering the option with the Sportside stepside bed instead. Cast-aluminum wheels have been installed in favor of the chromed steel wheels that were previously used in both the two-wheel drive and four-wheel drive examples. These wheels were shared with the 454SS. The front fascia of the Sport package has been updated with a W/T 1500 grille that has been finished in the vehicle’s body color. The option package, which was previously only available for Chevrolet vehicles, is now offered for GMC Sierra 1500s. 1994 saw the introduction of Teal Green as the third exterior color, taking the place of Summit White (the latter returned for 1996).

The Chevrolet 454SS was introduced as a high-performance version of the C1500 for the 1990 model year. The 454SS was a half-ton C1500 that was driven by a 7.4-liter V8 that produced 230 horsepower (172 kW), making it the most recent American high-performance pickup truck since the 1989 Shelby Dakota.

The majority of the 454SS’s design came from the Sport Equipment Package. It had a nearly monochromatic black exterior, a gloss-black grille (with red-trim badging), and body-color bumpers and mirrors. This set it apart from other models of the same generation (borrowing the latter from the Cheyenne). The vehicle was given Silverado interior trim, which included model-specific bucket seats and interior colors in addition to the “454SS” bed-side decals that were used to identify it from the outside.
