About Saturn Astra
In the United Kingdom, the Astra is known as the Vauxhall Astra. Between 2008 and 2009, it was rebadged and sold as the Saturn Astra in North America, as the Buick Excelle XT from 2009 to 2015, and as the Buick Verano/Hatchback GS in China from 2015 to 2021. In Australia and New Zealand, the Holden Astra was discontinued in 2009 and was replaced by the locally assembled Holden Cruze. It briefly returned to the Australian market in 2012, for the first time badged as an Opel, but was discontinued a year later when Opel exited the country. Opel reintroduced the Astra GTC and Astra VXR to Australia and New Zealand in 2015, bearing the Holden badge once more.
Following its debut at the 2007 Chicago Auto Show, the Saturn Astra was marketed in both the United States and Canada. The Astra, which replaced the Ion, was a captive import based on the Opel Astra, which was manufactured in Antwerp, Belgium.
Sales began on January 2, 2008, with a single engine, a 1.8 L U18XER inline-4-cylinder gasoline engine with variable-valve technology producing 138 hp (103 kW) — available with a five-speed manual transmission or a four-speed automatic transmission. (Source: Wiki)
