About Saab 9000

The Saab 9000 is a car manufactured by the Swedish company Saab between 1984 and 1998. It was created as a result of the success of the turbocharged 99 and 900 models, and it represents the company’s entry into the executive car market. The 9000 was produced until May 1998 before being replaced by the Saab 9-5 in late 1997, though some final cars were produced until 1998. The Saab 9000 was only available with petrol engines, as a 5-door hatchback or 4-door notchback, and never as a convertible or Coupé (except for one prototype).

In collaboration with the Italian automaker Fiat Automobiles, Saab designed the 9000 as part of the Type Four platform. Similar derivative versions were sold by Fiat, including the more basic Fiat Croma, the luxury-themed Lancia Thema, and the sports-oriented Alfa Romeo 164. Unlike the 164, which only shares the chassis, the Croma and Thema look identical to the 9000. As a result, much of the bodywork, such as the doors, appeared interchangeable between the 9000, Croma, and Thema. They will not fit, however, because Saab installed heavier side impact protection. The front of the Saab is also markedly different from that of its Italian siblings, owing to significantly improved crash protection. Only seven of the parts are interchangeable. (Source: Wiki)
