About Jaguar XJR
The 4.0-liter V8 engine in the XJR has been upgraded to include a supercharger. Additionally, it features a sport suspension, matte-black exterior window trim, and wider wheels and tires (except in the US market, where the XJR was given chrome window frames and rain gutters.) The XJR model, just like the Sport model, has a radiator grille surround that is body-colored. However, in place of the typical vanes, the XJR model has a mesh insert made of stainless steel. In addition to that, the “XJR” badging has been moved to the back, and the exhaust outlets have been made larger.
An “R1” performance option was made available on later-generation XJR models. This included larger Brembo brakes with cross-drilled rotors, retuned suspension, and 18-inch BBS wheels as part of the upgrade.
In 2001, Jaguar celebrated the one hundredth year since Sir William Lyons’ birth by releasing a limited-edition model that they called the “XJR 100.” This model was produced in a total of 500 individual units. The exterior is only offered in the color anthracite, and the interior is upholstered in charcoal leather and accented with contrasting red stitching and birdseye maple. It comes with a MOMO shift knob and a leather-wrapped sports steering wheel as standard equipment. The R1-equipped XJR can be distinguished by its use of Brembo brakes, which are also utilized by the XJR 100. The wheels on the XJR 100 are of the “Montreal” style and measure 19 inches in diameter.
The supercharged engine found only in the XJR was also available in the Daimler and Vanden Plas cars. The Daimler Super V8 was the name given to this model. Until 2001, this combination was only available as a special order in the United States (with these cars identifiable by their “Vanden Plas Supercharged” rear badging).
