About Ford Police Interceptor
The Ford Motor Company produces a range of sedans and SUVs known as the Ford Police Interceptor under the brand name “Interceptor.” The line is comprised of pre-existing Ford models that have been modified for use as law enforcement vehicles.
Despite the fact that Ford has traditionally manufactured police versions of their Full-size Ford sedans, the name “Police Interceptor” was first applied to a vehicle in 1992 when Ford introduced the Crown Victoria Police Interceptor. As of the year 2022, the sole Police Interceptor that is currently being manufactured is the Ford Police Interceptor Utility, which is a variant of the Ford Explorer.
The Ford Crown Victoria underwent a makeover for the 1998 model year, during which it adopted the more subdued appearance of the Mercury Grand Marquis. During its generation of 13 years, the automobile was also subject to a great deal of change.
In 1998, the P71 police package added chrome accents to a variety of the vehicle’s surfaces. 1999 saw the introduction of a chrome-accented gloss black rear fascia, unpainted door handle trim, black bumper strips, and a gloss black slatted grille. In addition, there was the introduction of a “Street Appearance Package,” which was designed to make the Police Interceptor look more like a civilian P73 model.
When the year 2000 rolled around, the chrome trim was removed from the rear fascia and taillights, and the gloss black grille was replaced with a flat black slatted grille. The slat-style grille that is found on earlier standard Crown Victorias and CVPIs was replaced with a new honeycomb-style grille in 2001.
