About Ford Mustang

The Ford Mustang is a line of sports cars that have been produced by the American automaker Ford since the 1960s. The Mustang has remained in production without interruption since 1964, making it the Ford car nameplate with the longest production history. It is the fifth-best selling Ford car nameplate, and it is currently in its sixth generation of production. Mustang is the namesake of the automobile segment known as “pony cars,” and it was developed as a highly styled line of sporty coupes and convertibles derived from existing model lines. These vehicles were initially distinguished by their “long hood, short deck” proportions.

It was initially anticipated that the 1965 Mustang would sell 100,000 vehicles annually; however, it ended up becoming the most successful launch of a vehicle since the 1927 Model A. Introduced on April 17, 1964, sixteen days after the Plymouth Barracuda, the Mustang sold over 400,000 units in its first year and reached one million sales within two years of its launch. In August of 2018, Ford produced the 10-millionth Mustang.

The successful introduction of the Mustang prompted other American automobile manufacturers to develop a number of rivals, such as the Chevrolet Camaro and Pontiac Firebird (1967), the AMC Javelin (1968), and the Dodge Challenger (1969). Additionally, the Mustang had an influence on coupe designs all over the world, which led to the production of coupes like the Toyota Celica and the Ford Capri in the United States.
