About Ford Ranger
The nameplate “Ranger” has been applied to several different model lines of pickup trucks that Ford has marketed and distributed all over the world. Since 1982, the nameplate has been applied to separate model lines of compact and mid-size pickup vehicles across the globe. These vehicles fall into the category of “pickups.”
The Ford Ranger made its debut in 1982 as a compact pickup that was primarily sold in North America beginning with the 1983 model year. The Ford Ranger was later introduced in some South American countries after its initial release. Between the years 1998 and 2011, Mazda used the Ranger nameplate for a number of different models that were designed specifically for markets other than the North American market. 2011 marked the debut of Ford’s first Ranger, which was built on the company’s T6 platform. The model is a pickup truck that is considered to be of a mid-size and was developed in-house by Ford Australia. In the same year, production of the Ranger for the North American market was terminated, which resulted in the T6 platform-based Ranger being the only Ranger model available anywhere in the world.
The Ranger was relaunched in the North American market for the 2019 model year using the T6 variant that is sold in other markets around the world. It is manufactured at the Michigan Assembly Plant in Wayne, which is located in the state of Michigan. The Ford Ranger is currently positioned in the Ford North American pickup truck range below the F-150 and above the Ford Maverick. However, the Ford Ranger is typically the only Ford pickup truck that is offered for sale in markets located outside of the Americas.
The second generation of the T6-based Ranger was introduced in 2021 for markets all over the world. It retained the T6 platform but featured updated software and hardware.
