About Chevrolet Equinox
The Chevrolet Equinox was introduced for the 2005 model year in 2004. The Equinox debuted at the 2003 North American International Auto Show.
The Pontiac Torrent was introduced for the 2006 model year in 2005. The Pontiac Torrent debuted at the 2005 Los Angeles Auto Show.
The unibody, which rides on the GM Theta platform, is mechanically similar to the Saturn Vue and the Suzuki XL7. The Equinox and Torrent, on the other hand, are larger than the Vue, with a wheelbase that is 112.5 in (2,858 mm) longer than the Vue. Front-wheel drive is standard, with all-wheel drive available as an option. They are not intended for serious off-roading like the Chevrolet Tahoe and Chevrolet TrailBlazer.
For the first time, GM updated the Equinox for the 2006 model year, adding GM badges on the front doors and recoloring the dashboard panel from grey to black.
The first generation Equinox and Torrent were exclusively manufactured at the CAMI Automotive GM/Suzuki joint venture plant in Ingersoll, Ontario, Canada. The 3.4 L LNJ V6 engine is manufactured in China (by Shanghai GM), and the Aisin AF33 transmission is manufactured in Japan. Beginning with the 2008 model year, the Equinox Sport and Pontiac GXP were available with an American-made 3.6-liter V6 engine.
