About Chevrolet Corvette
The Chevrolet Corvette, also known as the ‘Vette in the United States, is a two-door, two-passenger luxury sports car produced and marketed by Chevrolet since 1953. The Corvette has eight design generations, numbered from C1 to C8, and is known for its performance and distinctive fiberglass or composite panels. It was front-engined until 2019 and has since been mid-engined.
The Corvette is currently the only two-seat sports car manufactured by a major American automaker, and it serves as Chevrolet’s halo vehicle.
In 1953, GM executives agreed to Myron Scott’s suggestion, then the assistant director of Public Relations, to name the company’s new sports car after the corvette, a small maneuverable warship. The first model, a convertible, was introduced as a concept car at the 1953 GM Motorama; production models went on sale later that year. The second generation was introduced in coupe and convertible body styles in 1963. Originally built in Flint, Michigan, and St. Louis, Missouri, the Corvette has been manufactured in Bowling Green, Kentucky, since 1981, where the National Corvette Museum is also located.
