About KIA Sportage

Since 1993, the South Korean automobile manufacturer Kia has been producing a series of sport utility vehicles known as the Kia Sportage. The Kia Sportage was initially classified as a compact SUV; however, in 2004, it was reclassified as a compact crossover SUV. Previously, the Sportage was placed in the compact SUV class. It has gone through four generations and is now in its fifth iteration, and it is located in the middle of Kia’s SUV lineup, between the two-row Seltos or Niro and the three-row Sorento.

For the 2011 model year, the SL series of the Sportage was introduced to the markets of Asia and Europe in April 2010, followed by the markets of North and Central America in August 2010, and finally the market of Australia in October 2010, respectively. Both a 2.0-liter Theta T-GDI gasoline engine and a 2.0-liter Hyundai R diesel engine with 184 horsepower (137 kW) were offered as options for the vehicle’s powertrain. It was first introduced to the Chinese market by Dongfeng Yueda Kia in October 2010, where it was given the name Sportage R. It was not intended to serve as a replacement for the earlier generation but rather to be manufactured and sold alongside it.

The Sportage was given the “Auto roku 2011 na Slovensku” title, which translates to “Car of the Year 2011 in Slovakia,” as well as the “Truck of the Year” nomination for the International Car of the Year competition. It was rated number one in the JD Power Survey for 2012, and it was the only vehicle in the survey to receive a perfect score of five stars in every category, including mechanical reliability, ownership costs, and the overall quality of the dealership experience. It was awarded the “SUVs and Crossovers – City and Suburban” category of the 2013 Standard Bank People’s Wheels Award in South Africa.
