About KIA Rio
At the 2016 Paris Motor Show, Kia unveiled the fourth-generation Rio for the international market. The new automobile was designed in Kia’s design centers in California and Germany. It has longer front overhangs, a larger hood, and more upright C-pillars for the hatchback model. Kia’s design centers are located in California and Germany. The new hatchback model is 15 millimeters longer than its predecessor, 5 millimeters wider, and 5 millimeters lower in height.
The three-door hatchback option is no longer available for purchase in Europe, where only the five-door hatchback version of the vehicle is available for purchase.
Both the 5-door hatchback and the sedan body styles are available in some other markets, such as those found in the Americas. Alongside the Forte, production of the Rio that is destined for the North American market takes place at the recently constructed Pesquera plant in Mexico.
As opposed to the models of previous generations, the Rio of the fourth generation is only available for export. This is because the domestic market in South Korea does not currently have a place for it due to the declining sales of its predecessor. As an alternative, the Rio-based Stonic crossover was made available throughout the country.
Beginning with the 2020 model year, the 1.6-liter Gamma GDi engine was phased out in favor of the 1.6-liter Gamma II MPi for the vehicles destined for sale in the North American market. Because of this, the EPA’s rating for fuel economy was significantly improved, while the maximum horsepower rating was decreased from 130 horsepower (132 PS; 97 kW) to a peak of 120 horsepower (122 PS; 89 kW).
In July of 2017, the Rio, now in its fourth generation, was introduced to the Malaysian market.
