About Jaguar S-Type

Jaguar’s Castle Bromwich facility in Birmingham, England is where the production of the S-Type took place. Geoff Lawson was the one responsible for the car’s styling in 1995, and it was built on the Jaguar DEW platform or the Ford DEW platform, both of which are shared by the Lincoln LS and the Ford Thunderbird. On October 20, 1998, it was presented to the public for the first time at the Birmingham International Motor Show, and it went on sale in January 1999. It catered to purchasers of automobiles like the BMW 5 Series among others.

The first generation of S-Types, known as the “X200” and produced between 1999 and 2002, are easily identifiable by their U-shaped center consoles. In 2003 and later models, a touchscreen navigation system is available as an option. The traditional ornament of a leaping jaguar on the bonnet is removable, conforms to safety regulations in both the United States and the European Union, and can be removed in the event of an accident. The Jaguar emblem was incorporated into the radiator grille of subsequent models (designated by “X202,” “X204,” and “X206,” with the final digit denoting the model year), which also featured a more conventional “looped” design for the center stack of the dashboard. The “leaper” bonnet ornament did not become commercially available in Australia until the year 2004.
