About Chrysler Grand Voyager
The Chrysler division of Stellantis is responsible for the production of the minivan known as the Chrysler Voyager, as well as the longer-wheelbase Chrysler Grand Voyager. It is positioned as the lower-end Chrysler minivan in the current range, having replaced the Dodge Grand Caravan in 2020 and being placed below the Chrysler Pacifica in the hierarchy of vehicles.
The Chrysler Voyager was initially released in Europe in the year 1988. In the United States, the Chrysler Voyager was a rebadged version of the Dodge Caravan. The Caravan, the Plymouth Voyager, and the Chrysler Town & Country all contributed to its development in the beginning. After DaimlerChrysler AG folded the Plymouth division in 2001, the Chrysler Voyager nameplate was introduced in the United States to replace the short-wheelbase (SWB) variant of the Plymouth Voyager. The Chrysler Voyager was produced until 2003 before being discontinued. After the Dodge Grand Caravan was discontinued at the end of the 2020 model year, the nameplate was brought back for the 2021 model year and is now rebadged as the Chrysler Grand Caravan in Canada. This came after the Dodge Grand Caravan was no longer produced.
Between the model years of 2011 and 2016, the Chrysler Voyager was rebadged as the Lancia Voyager and sold in Europe under that name. The Voyager was offered for purchase with a variety of engines, one of which was a diesel engine. Additionally, a manual transmission and a foot-operated emergency brake were options for buyers. Even though all Grand Voyagers were now manufactured in Ontario, Canada, consumers may still choose to have diesel engines installed in their vehicles. These diesel engines are derived from VM Motori of Italy, which is known for its innovative twin overhead cam common rail design. The long-wheelbase variant of the Chrysler Grand Voyager was the only one that was offered for sale in Europe. These vehicles are quite similar to the Chrysler Town & Country models that were produced in 2008 and beyond (as in North America). The Grand Voyager moniker was retired after the sixth generation, at which point it was no longer sold in any market.
With nearly 12 million units sold, the Chrysler minivan moniker ranks as the world’s thirteenth best-selling automobile marque overall. This ranking includes all of the minivans sold under the Chrysler brand.
The Caravan was first presented as a North American minivan for the US and Canadian markets in November 1983, with the identical Plymouth Voyager, for the 1984 model year.
