About Cadillac CTS
The Cadillac CTS (Catera Touring Sedan) was a three-generation executive car produced and marketed by General Motors from 2003 to 2019. Historically, it was priced similarly to cars in the compact luxury segment, but it was always sized similarly to its mid-size competitors. The third generation directly competes with mid-size luxury cars. Initially available only as a four-door sedan on the GM Sigma platform, GM offered the second generation CTS in three body styles: four-door sedan, two-door coupe, and five-door sport wagon, all on the Sigma platform — and the third generation was only available as a sedan, on a stretched version of the GM Alpha platform.
The smaller CT5, which, like the first and second-generation CTS, competes with the BMW 3 Series and Mercedes-Benz C-Class while maintaining its 5 Series/E-Class size, is the third-generation CTS’s indirect successor.
The exterior of the first generation CTS was designed by Wayne Cherry and Kip Wasenko, marking the production debut of a design language (marketed as “Art and Science”) first seen on the Evoq concept car. The exterior of the third generation CTS was designed by Bob Boniface and Robin Krieg.
The Cadillac CTS-V is a performance-oriented variant of the Cadillac CTS. The CTS-V series is comprised of three body styles, each with a pushrod OHV V-8 engine and a sport-tuned suspension. The four-door CTS-V sedan debuted in 2004, and the sport wagon and coupe debuted in 2010 for the 2011 model year. In the North American consumer market, the sedan competes against other high-performance luxury sedans and “echoes” their quality while being a more affordable option than competitors such as the Audi RS6, BMW M5, and Mercedes E63 AMG.
Until the third generation CTS-V was ready, the second generation CTS-V sedan, coupe, and station wagon were sold alongside the third generation standard sedan until 2014. In 2019, the CT5-V Blackwing was introduced to replace the car.
