Jeep Grand Cherokee 2004-2008 Key Programming Procedure
The following are the key programming procedures for Jeep Grand Cherokee 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2008.
ADD KEY (Must have two working Sentry Keys):
1. Put one of the two current keys into the ignition and turn to the ON position.
2. After the key has been in the ON position for at least three seconds — but no more than 15 seconds — turn the key back to the OFF position.
3. Take the key out and put in the second current key, turning it to the ON position, all within 15 seconds. The second key cannot be the same as the first key.
4. After ten seconds, a theft alarm light will illuminate and a single chime will sound. This confirms entry into “Customer Programming Mode”.
5. Within 60 seconds, turn key OFF and remove the current key.
6. Put a new key into the ignition and turn to the ON position.
7. After ten seconds, a single chime will sound. The theft alarm light will turn off. Wait three seconds and turn key OFF.
8. Repeat these steps for additional keys.
About Grand Cherokee
The WK Grand Cherokee debuted in 2004 at the New York International Auto Show for the 2005 model year, featuring available Quadra-Drive II four-wheel drive, a rear-seat DVD player, and a 5.7 L Hemi V8 engine. The 3.7 L V6 engine was introduced to replace the 4.0 L Straight-6 engine. Outside of North America, a Mercedes-Benz-sourced 3.0 V6 Common Rail Diesel (CRD) was available from the start.
The XJ-era leading-arms live-axle front suspension (found in the ZJ and WJ) was replaced with an independent double-wishbone configuration similar to the Liberty’s début in 2002. The WH/WK Grand Cherokee is a truck-based SUV that delivers “crossover” refinement, capability, and NVH.
At the Euro Camp Jeep in Ardèche, France, the 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee had its European debut. In 2005, the Euro NCAP crash safety tests awarded this Jeep four stars.
For 2008, the Grand Cherokee received a small redesign, including new headlights and the option of auto-leveling High-Intensity Discharge (HID) headlamps. The lower piece of the front bumper, which had been removable since launch to increase the approach angle for off-road use, remained. The 4.7 L has been fine-tuned to produce 305 horsepower (227 kW; 309 PS) and 334 pound-feet (453 Nm) of torque.
A new 5.7 L Hemi engine with 357 horsepower (266 kW; 362 PS) and 389 lbft (527 Nm) of torque is available for the 2009 Jeep Grand Cherokee. To improve fuel economy, the engine employs variable valve timing.
The fourth-generation WK2 Grand Cherokee went on sale as a 2011 model in the summer of 2010. It was first shown at the New York Auto Show in 2009. During its development in 2009, Chrysler executives touted it as a sample of future products to persuade US federal regulators of Chrysler’s future viability in order to obtain a federal loan. That same year, Chrysler filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.
The fourth-generation Jeep Grand Cherokee maintains historic Jeep appearance while also having a modern and streamlined body. The inside has leather accents and real wood accents, as well as Bluetooth and uConnect technology. The Jeep Grand Cherokee now holds 30 honors for off-road capability, luxury, value, best-in-class, and safety, making it the most honored SUV of all time. The IIHS named it a Top Safety Pick for 2011, Consumers Digest named it a Best Buy for 2011, MSN Autos named it the Safest SUV in America, and The Detroit News named it Truck of the Year for 2011.
