About Cadillac ATS
The 2014 Cadillac ATS is a newcomer to the market, but that isn’t the only reason it stands out. The ATS has come the closest to unseating the Germans, particularly the benchmark BMW 3-Series, among compact sport sedans.
The 3-Series’ position as the de facto leader is under threat, thanks to great handling, excellent cabin quality, and a plethora of high-tech gadgetry. That’s not to suggest that other vehicles, such as the Mercedes-Benz C Class, Audi A4, and Infiniti Q50, aren’t making strides as well.
The ATS comes with three engines: a standard four-cylinder, a 272-horsepower turbocharged four-cylinder, and a silky 321-horsepower V-6. A Tremec six-speed manual transmission is available, which pairs well with the turbocharged four-cylinder for enthusiast corner carving chores; a six-speed automatic transmission pairs better with the strong V-6. There is no ultra-performance variant, and hence no V-8 engine, but the ATS’ blend of nimble characteristics and snappy four- and six-cylinder engines demonstrates a balance that you might not anticipate from an American automobile.
The interior is adorned with wood, leather, and metal, as well as a variety of trims and accessories, including optional carbon fiber components. Front sport bucket seats, notably the enhanced performance seats, grip the occupants; room is also good in the front, with width and depth to accommodate even the longest-legged passengers. The rear seat is a little tighter, but it’s still fairly acceptable for its class. There are numerous small-item storage bins throughout the cabin, including one cleverly hidden behind the CUE infotainment screen.
The Cadillac ATS comes standard with eight airbags, including front knee airbags and an option for rear side airbags, as you’d expect from a 2014 model car. The NHTSA gives the ATS a five-star rating overall. A lane-departure warning system, adaptive cruise control, and a rearview camera are among the available safety features.
The exterior of the 2014 Cadillac ATS is eye-catching but not controversial, combining modern Cadillac design with a broader appeal. Inside, it’s more of the same, with clean lines and sleek curves meeting excellent materials in a confident, modern setting.
