About Volvo V70R

As with the previous generation, Volvo offered a high-performance variant called the V70 R AWD, which was based on the 2001 PCC2 concept car and debuted on September 26, 2002, at the Paris Motor Show. The model, which was released in 2003, pioneered many firsts for Volvo. It was only available with Haldex all-wheel drive and a 2.5L turbocharged five-cylinder engine rated at 300 PS (221 kW; 296 hp) and 400 Nm (295 lbft) of torque. This resulted in a 5.9-second 0-60 mph (0-97 km/h) time. It had a top speed of 250 km/h that was electronically limited (155 mph). The R was available with either a six-speed manual M66 transmission or a five-speed automatic Aisin AW55 transmission. The five-speed automatic was replaced by a more modern six-speed unit in the 2005 facelift. Brembo’s large brakes provided high-performance braking capabilities that matched the car’s high-performance characteristics. Volvo’s 4C multi-mode suspension, developed in collaboration with suspension experts hlins, was standard on the V70 R. The driver could select one of three different settings to customize the car’s handling based on driving style and conditions.

The Wall Street Journal linked the V70R to a trend “to lure speed-crazy guys with kids” in a 2006 article titled “The Manwagon,” saying “car makers are trying to transform the dowdy old family hauler into something new,” and that “consumer research had unearthed a surprising number of family men who thought wagons could be cool, if only they had more guts.”

In total, 3407 V70Rs were shipped to North America: 1,565 in 2004, 823 in 2005, 674 in 2006, and 345 in 2007. (Source: Wiki)
