About Volvo S70

The Volvo S70, which was introduced in Europe in late 1996 for the 1997 model year and later in the United States for the 1998 model year, was an updated version of the Volvo 850 saloon. The body of the S70 was more rounded than that of its predecessor. A redesigned front end with new lights, fully color-coded bumpers and side trim, clear indicator lenses for the rear lights, and a redesigned interior were among the changes. Volvo claims that a total of 1800 changes were made.

Remote central locking, heated and electrically adjustable mirrors, 4 airbags, power brakes with ABS, and power windows were made standard on all vehicles. Trim levels and equipment levels of the most basic trims differed by market. In the United States, badging denoted engine variant and, to a lesser extent, equipment level, whereas in Europe, engine and options could be selected individually. More powerful versions received better or upgraded standard equipment in all markets. The series’ high-performance models were the T5 and R.

A new 5-speed automatic transmission with adaptive shift logic was introduced for model year 2000. It was only offered on non-turbocharged front-wheel drive models. The 10V engine variants were dropped in favor of detuned 20V versions, and drive-by-wire throttle was added for non-turbo models. (Source: Wiki)
