About Subaru WRX
Subaru decided to discontinue marketing the WRX and WRX STI under the Impreza name for the VA series WRX released in 2014 for the 2015 model year. This time, the Impreza name was dropped in all markets where the new model is simply known as the WRX, as was the case with the previous model in North America, while it was sold as the WRX S4 in Japan.
The WRX and WRX STI are performance models that are based on the GJ/GP Impreza and feature higher output engines, firmer suspension, larger brakes, slightly resculpted body panels, lowered ride height, and larger intakes. The body design also deviated more from the Impreza donor model than in the past. The general WRX profile/silhouette, as well as the front doors, trunk lid, and interior, were carried over from the Impreza. The entire front end bodywork, as well as the rear quarter panels, were unique to the WRX. The rear doors were given a subtle reskin with an upwards kink and a revised character line, but otherwise remained the same shape.
Subaru had previously promised to separate the WRX and STI from the Impreza chassis and body to create a standalone model. The VA-body WRX is built on a modified Impreza chassis and body, with the Impreza name dropped in all markets. Subaru decided not to produce the WRX or WRX STI hatchbacks that were previously available for this generation. The previous generation hatchback accounted for roughly half of all WRX and WRX STI sales in the United States. (Source: Wiki)
