About Mercedes-Benz C218 CLS-Class

The Mercedes-Benz W211 is the third generation Mercedes-Benz E-Class, produced from 2002 to 2009 in sedan/saloon and station wagon/estate configurations, succeeding the W210 E-Class models and being replaced in 2009 by the Mercedes-Benz W212.

The C219, marketed as the CLS, debuted in 2005 as a niche model based on W211 mechanicals. The W211 E-Class, introduced in 2002 for the 2003 model year, was an evolution of the previous model. The car was featured in the 2002 film Men in Black II before going on sale in North America. The W211 development program began in 1997, followed by design work. The final designs were chosen in 1999, and on December 18, 2000, German patents were filed using an E 500 prototype.

The W211 Platform also served as the foundation for the newly reintroduced Chrysler LX vehicles (Chrysler 300, Dodge Charger, Dodge Magnum).

At the 2002 European Motor Show in Brussels, with twin-headlights that were angled slightly rearward. The 2003 E-Class was larger than its predecessors, but it had less interior space, especially in the estate model, than the W210 it replaced. It was available with either gasoline or diesel engines, as well as rear or four-wheel drive.

Mercedes-Benz claimed that the new E-fuel Class’s consumption was reduced by up to 0.9 litres per 100 km when compared to the previous model. The redesigned 2003 model included a Sensotronic Brake Control (SBC) electrohydraulic braking system, which was standard equipment in the E-Class. Multicontour front seats and a dual control air suspension system known as Airmatic DC were available as options. (Source: Wiki)
