About Mercedes-Benz CLK500
There is nothing else quite like the CLK 500. Although there were no audible expressions of delight as it slammed into the evo parking lot, a cursory examination of the specifications indicates that there ought to be somewhat more fervor for a vehicle of this nature. Of course, its kerb appeal isn’t helped when it’s painted silver-grey with a matching grey interior, but boy, does this new version pack a punch if you give the accelerator a generous prod.
Consider the following: the CLK 500 from the previous year sent an impressive 306 horsepower to the rear wheels, which was sufficient to propel the vehicle along at a very brisk pace thank you; however, the latest version adds an additional 82 horsepower to this not-too-shabby total, bringing the herd count to an impressive 388 horsepower. That’s a 21-horsepower increase over the previous generation of the CLK 55 AMG.
Because of all of that additional power, this CLK 500 can complete the 0-60 dash in a little bit more than 5 seconds before it has to hit the mandatory 155 mph limiter not too much longer after that. And yet, you would be forgiven for thinking that this automobile’s raison d’être is not to win the next traffic light Grand Prix, but rather to maintain a comfortable temperature for those who are riding inside it.
