About Mercedes-Benz CL55 AMG

The C215-chassis coupé that was produced by Mercedes-Benz from 1998 until 2006 represents the second generation of the CL-Class. It is based on the Mercedes-Benz S-Class (W220) that was produced from 1998 to 2005, but it rides on a wheelbase that is 8 inches (203 mm) shorter. The CL 500 V8 went on sale for the first time in Germany in August of 1999.

The CL-Class is available in seven different models, including the V8-powered CL 500, the V8-powered CL 55 AMG with naturally aspirated or supercharged V8 power, the V12-powered CL 600, the V8-powered CL 63 AMG, and the bi-turbo V12 that powers the CL 600 bi-turbo and the CL 65 AMG.

The Mercedes-Benz CL 55 AMG F1 Limited Edition is the first road-legal automobile in the world to feature an ultra-high-performance ceramic braking system. It is a limited edition vehicle produced by Mercedes-Benz. Internally ventilated brake discs constructed from fiber-reinforced ceramics were developed by the engineers at DaimlerChrysler AG and Mercedes-AMG GmbH specifically for this one-of-a-kind high-performance coupe. Ceramic brakes were used in the CL as part of a pilot project that will see this technology made available early the following year for purchase as an option on the S and CL 55 AMG models. The CL 55 AMG safety served as the inspiration for the creation of this jaw-dropping special edition model.
