About Chrysler Town & Country

The Chrysler Town & Country is a brand name given to a minivan that was produced and sold by Chrysler from the 1990 model year all the way up until the 2016 model year. The Chrysler Town & Country minivan, which debuted in 1990 as the third generation of Chrysler’s minivan lineup, was given the same name as the company’s flagship station wagon, which was manufactured by Chrysler from 1941 until 1988. The model line was produced for a total of five generations, with the Town & Country serving as the flagship luxury minivan trim package for the entire lineup. It was positioned above the extended wheelbase versions of the Dodge Grand Caravan and Plymouth Grand Voyager.

The Town & Country nameplate for Chrysler-division minivans was discontinued after the 2016 model year, and the Chrysler Pacifica nameplate was adopted for the sixth generation of vehicles beginning in 2017.

When Chrysler discontinued the Town & Country, the company had just reached the milestone of selling its 12 millionth minivan (combined under three nameplates).

The Town & Country nameplate has been in production almost continuously for the past seventy-five years, making it the longest continuously produced Chrysler nameplate. In the annals of worldwide automotive history, it is only surpassed in longevity by the Chevrolet Suburban nameplate.

The first three generations of the minivan were manufactured by Chrysler in Fenton, Missouri (Saint Louis Assembly); the fourth generation of the minivan was also manufactured in Taiwan by China Motor Corporation in Yangmei District, Taoyuan; the fourth and fifth generations of the minivan were also manufactured by Chrysler Canada in Windsor, Ontario; and the sixth generation of the minivan was also manufactured in Taiwan by China Motor Corporation (Windsor Assembly).

The Chrysler Town & Country minivan was initially scheduled to be released for the 1989 model year[4,] but it was not until the spring of 1989 that it was introduced as an early 1990 model (before marketing began of the 1990 Dodge and Plymouth counterparts).
