About Buick Park Avenue
Full-size luxury automobiles manufactured by Buick are referred to as Park Avenue models. The first time the nameplate was used was in 1975 for the first time for an appearance option package that was available for the Electra 225 Limited. After the Electra was taken out of production in 1991, it became its own model the following year and went on to become a trim level for the Electra in 1978. The Park Avenue was produced in the United States in two different generations up to 2005. Both of these generations were known as the Park Avenue. The moniker was brought back into use in 2007 on a large sedan produced by Shanghai GM specifically for the Chinese market. It was based on the Holden Caprice from the WM/WN line of vehicles. The name derives from one of the most prestigious thoroughfares in New York City, which is Park Avenue.
The 1975 Buick Electra Limited was the vehicle that introduced the Park Avenue aesthetic package for the first time. It came with seats that were comparable to those found in the Cadillac Sixty Special, a full center console that was an available option, a Buick 455ci V8 engine, posi-traction, 15-inch rallye sport wheels, rear automatic leveling, leather as an available option, an optional Air Cushion Restraint System, a remote mirror that included a thermometer, and automatic climate control. The automobiles of 1976 were almost identical to those of 1975, with the exception of a few cosmetic changes and additional emission control systems.
The Electra’s Park Avenue package, which had previously been an appearance option, was elevated to the status of an official trim level in 1978. The only noticeable changes to the exterior that year were a new grille and redesigned tail lights. The following year, 1979, saw a redesign of the flat front end as well as a subtly different taillight treatment featuring a Buick crest and a bisecting horizontal silver line. For the 1980 model year, there was a more significant redesign implemented.
