About Buick Century
Between the years 1936 and 1942, as well as between 1954 and 1958, Buick produced a line of upscale full-size automobiles under the model name Century. Between 1973 and 2005, the name Buick Century was also given to a line of mid-size automobiles.
The first generation of the Buick Century was initially introduced as the Series 60 before being renamed as the Century in 1936. This model was intended to be shorter and lighter than its predecessor, the Series 60, and featured the same engine as the larger Roadmaster and Limited series, giving it increased performance despite using the wheelbase of the Buick Special. It was available as a 2-door and 4-door sedan as well as a convertible during the 1930s and 1940s and served as a companion model to Buick’s flagship Roadmaster model. Six generations of automobiles with varying sizes, levels of performance, and levels of equipment were sold under the Century brand name. The Century Cruiser was a concept vehicle that was developed by Buick in the year 1969. In the 1970s, the Century Regal was split off as its own model, and the market positioning of the Century Regal and the Century itself shifted from year to year depending on how well each product sold. The Century was Buick’s two-door coupe, four-door sedan, and station wagon, and it received regular updates and feature upgrades as customer preferences changed over time. The front-wheel drive system was upgraded in 1982, and the model was known as the Century.
