About BMW M5
Under the BMW M sub-brand, the BMW M5 is a high-performance version of the BMW 5 Series that is sold to consumers. Within the realm of sports sedans, it is universally recognized as a legendary model. The majority of BMW M5s have been manufactured in the saloon (sedan) body style; however, between the years 1992 and 1995 and again between 2006 and 2010, the M5 was also offered in certain countries as a wagon (estate).
The first generation of the M5 was a hand-built model that debuted in 1985. It was based on the chassis of the E28 535i and featured a modified engine derived from the M1; as a result, it was the industry’s fastest production sedan at the time. Since 1985, every iteration of the BMW 5 Series has been followed by the production of an M5 model.
