About BMW 328i

In the pantheon of legendary BMW 3 Series models, the 328i is almost as well-known as the legendary M3. This is due to the fact that during the model’s heyday in the mid-1990s, it came to represent the largest six-cylinder engine option available in the regular (non-M-car) sports-sedan (and coupe and convertible) range.

The badge was introduced in conjunction with the facelift for the E36 generation in 1994. It succeeded the 325i, which had succeeded the famous 323i moniker as the model that topped the original E21 and the E30 versions that defined the era in the 1970s and 1980s. The 328i was succeeded by the E46 in 1998; however, it only lasted until the year 2000 before being succeeded by the 330i, which had a larger capacity. Nevertheless, everything comes full circle, and the 328i made a roaring comeback for the E90 facelift in the latter half of 2007.

However, despite receiving glowing reviews, the in-line six-cylinder engine that had been standard in previous generations of the BMW 3 Series was replaced with a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine in the F30 generation, which infuriated many die-hard fans of the brand. This change occurred in late 2011, when the 3 Series underwent its transformation into the F30 generation.

During the facelift for the 2015 model year, the 328i badge was once again eliminated and replaced by a 330i. But don’t be concerned, BMW aficionados. It is inevitable that it will do so on a 3 Series trunklid at some point in the foreseeable future.
