About Audi S5
The Audi S5 is one of two high-performance A5 variants. The coupé, cabriolet, and five-door fastback sedan versions of the fourth-generation (B8) Audi S4 saloon and estate models are also available.
They, like all Audi “S” models, are only available with Audi’s quattro four-wheel drive (4WD) system, which in the S5 employs a Torsen-based center diff system.
The majority of S5 models are produced at Audi’s plant in Ingolstadt, Germany; they are available as a coupé, cabriolet, and five-door sportback, which was previously unavailable in North America until the 2018 model year, which was released in the US in mid 2017. Audi manufactures the cabriolets in Neckarsulm, Germany.
The Audi S5 coupé was released to the public at the same time as the A5. The Audi S5 Sportback was unveiled at the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show and went on sale with an MSRP of €57,900 in the spring of 2010.
In comparison to the A5, the Audi S5 has a more aggressive body style (typical of Audi S and RS models), which includes side skirts, larger air inlets on the front bumper, and a dual-quad tip exhaust. The S5 has a row of LED daytime running lights surrounding the bi-Xenon headlamps, as well as a vertically striped chrome grille. In many markets, the S5 comes standard with 19″ alloy wheels with a five-parallel spoke design, larger brakes, heated leather sport bucket seats, and other convenience features that the A5 only offers as an option. LED tail lamps, Premium Plus and Prestige trim levels, and new optional equipment such as leather/Alcantara seats were introduced for the 2010 model year.
For the 2010-2012 model years, despite sharing the same nameplate, the powertrains were different between the coupé and the Cabriolet/Sportback. The Audi S5 coupé had a 4.2-litre Fuel Stratified Injection (FSI) V8 engine that produced 260 kW (350 hp) from 2007 to 2012, while the S5 Cabriolet and Sportback had a supercharged 3.0-litre TFSI V6 engine that produced 245 kW (329 hp) from 2010 to 2012. The coupé had a 6-speed manual or 6-speed Tiptronic transmission, while the Cabriolet/Sportback had a 7-speed S-tronic dual-clutch transmission. Despite minor differences in peak power output, the V8 and supercharged V6 deliver very similar results.
