About Audi A5 Quattro

Since the (B3/B4) Audi 80-based coupé model went out of production in 1996, Audi has not participated in the market for compact executive coupés until the debut of the A5 at the Geneva Motor Show in March of 2007. This marked Audi’s return to the market. The announcement that production of the Audi A5 would begin was made official on May 10, 2006. There was not a coupe version of the B6/B7 Audi A4, but there was a convertible. A decision was made by Audi for the fourth generation of the A4 (B8) to create a separate nameplate for the cabriolet, along with a new coupé and a 4-door fastback sedan. This nameplate is known as the A5.

The Audi A5 was the first of the B8 family of vehicles to be released (the other two being the Audi A4 and the Audi Q5 crossover SUV), all of which are based on the Audi MLP platform (Modular Longitudinal Platform), which also underpins the next generation of the A6 and the A8.

Following in the footsteps of the second generation TT and the R8, Audi’s lineup now includes a coupé designated as the A5. Elements of the Nuvolari quattro concept car were incorporated into the design of the Audi A5. The A5 made its debut with the 3.2-liter FSI V6 engine, which has a maximum output of 195 kW. (265 PS; 261 hp).

The A5 3.2 FSI Quattro and the S5 coupé 4.2 FSI Quattro were two of the first models sold in the United States. Both models were equipped with either a manual or an automatic transmission with six speeds and a Tiptronic mode. While the A5 and the Tiptronic did not go on sale until the beginning of spring 2008, the S5 model was the only one available with a manual transmission when it went on sale in November of 2007.

In 2008, Audi Canada began selling the A5, which included the A5 3.2 FSI and offered customers a choice between a six-speed manual or six-speed Tiptronic transmission. Since 2011, the only engine size available for the Audi A5 in the Canadian market is the 2.0 L Turbo. The brand-new Audi A5 Black Edition debuted for the first time in 2013

Following the success of the A4 Cabriolet, Audi introduced the A5 Cabriolet. The second quarter of 2009 marked the beginning of delivery of the A5 Cabriolet. At the 2009 New York Auto Show, the automobile was presented to the public for the first time.

Beginning in September 2009, consumers in the United States were able to purchase the convertible versions of the A5 and S5 models. Among the first models was the A5 2.0 I4 TFSI Multitronic, followed by the A5 2.0 Quattro Tiptronic and the S5 Quattro S-Tronic.

Models that were part of the initial production run included the 2.0 TFSI quattro 155 kW (211 PS; 208 hp), the 3.2 FSI quattro, the 2.0 TDI 125 kW (170 PS; 168 hp) with a six speed manual gearbox and a start/stop system, the 2.7 TDI, and the 3.0 TDI quattro. In September of 2009, retail versions of the product were made available.

Two gasoline-powered and three diesel-powered motors are among the options for the Audi A5 Sportback.
