About ACURA ILX
The concept version debuted at the 2012 North American International Auto Show, while the production model debuted at the 2012 Chicago Auto Show. Acura calls the new design of the ILX “aero-fused dynamics.” Honda’s assembly plant in Greensburg, Indiana, began mass production on April 23, and U.S. sales began on May 22.
The white ILX’s body is composed of 59 percent high strength steel with yield strength grades ranging from 440-980 MPa, with aluminum used for the hood and front bumper beam. In comparison to the Civic, the ILX has “Amplitude Reactive” dampers and a larger, more rigid steering shaft for improved handling and ride quality.
Leather upholstery, 17″ alloy wheels, navigation system, premium audio system with SiriusXM satellite radio, and high intensity discharge headlamps are among the major options available in the Premium and Technology packages. A multi-view rear backup camera with regular, wide-angle, and top-down modes is included in both option packages.
The ILX came standard with 17-inch wheels, leather interior, heated front seats, an eight-way power driver’s seat, a tri-angle backup camera, and an audio subwoofer with Active Noise Cancellation for the 2014 model year, but the price was increased by $1,000.
Due to low sales, the ILX Hybrid was discontinued for the 2015 model year. Only 2,660 Hybrid units had been sold since its introduction in May of 2014.
The updated 2016 ILX debuted at the Los Angeles Auto Show in November 2014 and went on sale in February 2015. It now came only with a “Earth Dreams” direct-injected 2.4-liter four-cylinder DOHC i-VTEC engine mated to an 8-speed dual-clutch transmission, a powertrain that was very similar to that of the TLX, which was first introduced in 2014. (as a 2015 model). With the release of the facelift, the manual transmission ILX was also discontinued. Only about 4% of ILXs sold between 2013 and 2015 had manual transmissions. LED headlamps with “Jewel Eye” (low and high beams, DRL pipe, and amber turn signals) similar to those found on other Acura models (RLX, MDX, and TLX) are standard, as are new LED tail lamps. A new “A-Spec” trim level was introduced, with sporty exterior and interior styling enhancements. The 2016 ILX began production in January 2015 at the Marysville Auto Plant in Marysville, Ohio.
