Procedure for Programming Infiniti Keys

The engine immobilizer is an anti-theft system that employs a keyfob with a digital code stored on it. When the keyfob comes into contact with the vehicle’s electronic management system or is inserted into the ignition switch, it transmits this “password” to it. If the user has the correct keyfob, the engine will start up.

The engine immobilizer is a safe method of discouraging thieves from stealing your car through hotwiring or traditional methods such as hammering the ignition with a screwdriver to force it to start. It’s like an extra layer of security on top of your car’s alarm.

St. George Evans and Edward Birkenbuel invented and patented the electric immobiliser/alarm system in 1919. When the ignition switch was turned on, current from the battery (or magneto) went to the spark plugs, allowing the engine to start or immobilizing the vehicle and sounding the horn. Each time the car was driven, the system settings could be changed. Modern immobiliser systems are automatic, which means the owner does not have to remember to turn it on.

Since January 1, 1998, all new cars sold in Germany have been required to have immobilizers, as have all new cars sold in the United Kingdom since October 1, 1998, in Finland since 1998, in Australia since 2001, and in Canada since 2007. Early models used a static code in the ignition key (or key fob) that was recognized by an RFID loop around the lock barrel and checked for a match against the vehicle’s engine control unit (ECU). If the code is not recognized, the ECU will prevent fuel from flowing and ignition from taking place. Later models employ rolling codes or advanced cryptography to prevent code copying from the key or ECU.

Every INFINITI car comes with a simple process for programming the car’s immobilizer keys. The INFINITI car models are shown below:

About Infiniti

The Infiniti brand was introduced in the United States in 1989 to target premium vehicle segments that would not otherwise fit with Nissan’s more mainstream image, and was partially influenced by the Plaza Accord of 1985. The Lexus and Acura premium brands were developed at the same time as Toyota and Honda’s Lexus and Acura premium brands. The Japanese government imposed voluntary export restraints for the US market, making it more profitable for automakers to export higher-priced vehicles to the US.

The Infiniti brand debuted with two models, the Q45 and the M30, previously sold through Japanese Nissan Motor Store dealership networks. The Q45 was built on the all-new second generation JDM Nissan President platform, which had a five millimeter shorter wheelbase at 2,875 mm (113.2 in). Beginning with model year 1992, the wheelbase was the same as the President’s, at 2880 mm (113.4 in). The first generation Q45t featured a 278 hp (207 kW; 282 PS) V8 engine, four wheel steering, and an active suspension system. The features of the car would have allowed it to compete in the full-sized “luxury” segment against the Mercedes S-Class, BMW 7 Series, Jaguar XJ, and Cadillac Fleetwood.

In November 1989, a second model, the two-door M30, a badge engineered Nissan Leopard, was introduced. It was produced for three years as a replacement for the Lexus SC. The engine was a 162 hp (121 kW; 164 PS) VG30E with an automatic transmission. The M30 coupe was underpowered for its 3,333 lb starting weight (1,512 kg). Due to the necessary body and chassis reinforcements, the M30 convertible weighed even more. The exterior of the M30 bore little resemblance to that of the larger Q45, and the interior was almost entirely different.

Infiniti did not offer a mid-luxury sedan to compete with the Acura Legend, the first Japanese luxury sedan introduced to North America, which was later joined by the Lexus GS. The Infiniti J30, which had to compete with the revised 1992 Lexus ES and was unsuccessful due to its small interior and unusual styling, was succeeded in 1996 by the Infiniti I series, introduced previously in April 1995, related to the Nissan Maxima, and in 2002 by the Infiniti G35.

The Infiniti badge, according to the company, has a dual meaning as stylized representations of both a road extending into the horizon and Mount Fuji, reflecting the car’s Japanese origins.
