About Volkswagen Phaeton

The Volkswagen Phaeton is a full-size luxury sedan/saloon manufactured by Volkswagen, described by Volkswagen as their “premium class” vehicle. It was introduced at the 2002 Geneva Motor Show and was marketed globally. North American sales ended in 2006, and global sales ended in 2016.

By way of the phaeton auto body style and the type of horse-drawn carriage that preceded it, the name Phaeton derives from Phaeton, the son of Phoebus (or Helios) in Greek mythology.

The manufacturer stated in 2002 that the annual capacity of the new Phaeton plant in Dresden was 20,000; by September 2006, a total of 25,000 had been built over a four-year period, with production running at around 6,000 cars per year. The domestic market was the strongest for the Phaeton, with 19,314 delivered in Germany alone by January 2009. In 2012, production fell to 10,190 vehicles, and in 2013, it fell to 5,812 vehicles. 84,253 units were built during Phaeton’s 15-year production run. (Source: Wiki)
