About Mercedes-Benz CLK55 AMG

In Germany, Mercedes offers AMG editions of each and every one of its product lines, including station wagon variants of the C- and E-class models. However, the only vehicles that can currently be shipped to the United States are the E55 sedan and the ML55 sport-ute.

The CLK55, the S55, and the CL55 are the three new models that will be introduced by AMG in the following year. The alphabetical portion of the designation, as is customary for AMG vehicles, denotes the model line, and the 55 indicates that there is a 5429cc V-8 engine underneath the hood.

Out of these, the CLK55 is easily the most interesting option because it has the potential to be the quickest AMG model that has ever been offered for sale in the United States. According to reports, the CLK can accelerate from 0 to 60 miles per hour in just under five seconds flat, despite having essentially the same engine as the E55. However, due to a tighter exhaust system, the CLK only produces 342 horses as opposed to 349 horses found in the E55.

The engine in the CLK55 has 67 more horsepower than the engine in the CLK430, making it typical of AMG models to have numerous other performance enhancements to complement the potent hand-built by AMG V-8. These enhancements are included in the CLK55. The heavy-duty gearbox that is used in the V-12 S-class models serves as the inspiration for the five-speed automatic transmission’s design.

In order to increase the braking ability to match the increase in power, larger-diameter and thicker vented brake rotors, which are squeezed by twin-piston calipers, are used. Additionally, the springs, shocks, and anti-roll bars have been made firmer; however, it is interesting to note that the wheel and tire sizes remain the same as those found on the CLK430.
