About Dodge Nitro
As a close variant of the second-generation Jeep Liberty, the Dodge Nitro is a compact SUV that Dodge produced and marketed from the model years 2007 through 2012 as part of a single generation. The model years covered by this generation include 2007 through 2012. Both automobiles are built with a composite unitized construction that joins the body structure to the frame rails along their entire length.
The production of the Nitro began in August of 2006 alongside the production of the Liberty at the Toledo North Assembly Plant in Toledo, Ohio. The Nitro was only available in a single body configuration with four doors. It was produced in right-hand-drive (RHD) and left-hand-drive (LHD) configurations, and it was sold all over the world, just like the Liberty. The beginning of sales occurred in September 2006 for models with rear-wheel drive as standard and part-time four-wheel drive as an option for the 2007 model year. Before production was halted in December 2011, approximately 200,000 models of the Nitro had already been produced.
In 2007, two-wheel and four-wheel drive were available, as well as a choice of 3.7 L or 4.0 L V6 engines. The SXT, SLT, and R/T were the model names. Interior seating surfaces available included cloth, stain-repellent cloth, and perforated leather. Front and rear side airbags, side curtain airbags, an electronic stability program with traction control and brake assist, electronic roll mitigation, and a tire-pressure monitor were all standard safety features. The four-cylinder version was only available in Europe.
For the 2008 model year, the Nitro was available in 4×2 and 4×4 trim levels, as well as SXT and SLT trim levels, with a standard 210-hp 3.7 L V6 engine. The SXT trim came standard with a six-speed manual transmission and an optional four-speed automatic transmission. The SLT trim came standard with a four-speed automatic transmission. The R/T package, available as an option, increased the level of equipment with a 260-hp 4.0 L V6 engine mated to a five-speed automatic transmission. The SXT trim level of the Nitro included standard power mirrors, windows, and door locks with remote keyless entry, satellite radio, air conditioning, and seating for five people.
