About Dodge Dart
The Dodge Dart is a line of automobiles that was manufactured by Dodge and sold by the company in North America between the model years of 1959 and 1976, with production continuing into later years in a variety of other markets.
The Dart name was first used in 1956 by Chrysler for a show car with a streamlined body designed by the Italian coachbuilder Carrozzeria Ghia. This car was later modified and renamed the Dart Diablo after it underwent further redesign. The production version of the Dodge Dart was initially released in 1960 and 1961 as a more affordable full-size vehicle. In 1962, it was reclassified as a mid-size vehicle, and from 1963 until 1976, it was a compact car.
The Dart nameplate was brought back into production for a compact car that was derived from the Fiat brand and released in 2012.
For the 1960 model year, Dodge Darts were introduced. They were downsized large cars designed to replace Plymouths in the Dodge dealer network’s standard, low-priced car segment.
