About BMW 428xi
For literally decades at this point, the BMW 3-series has established itself as the benchmark for the category that it was instrumental in developing. It is common for rivals to be victorious in one or more aspects, but no one ever manages to topple the king altogether, at least not for an extended period of time. BMW has expanded its product line by making the two-door model more distinguishable (by making it lower, wider, and slightly more rigid), by adding more variants, and even by developing specialized models like the GT.
The newest member of the “stable” is the 4-series Gran Coupe (pictured above), which is essentially a more streamlined and hatchbacked version of the previous model. Is the premium that it requires you to pay and the penalties that it mandates an acceptable trade off? In this section, we will evaluate it in comparison to the sedan. Our two test vehicles both have the M Sport trim, which distinguishes them from one another in terms of their exterior and interior fittings, including the wheels, fascias, and sills. Both have xDrive, which means their suspension is similar to that of non-M Sport models. This is in contrast to the lower and more rigid springs found in rear-wheel drive models. The 3-series is driven by the modern classic N55 inline six, which also has a mit turbocharger, while the 4-series is powered by the rorty 2-liter N20 turbo engine.
When purchasing a BMW 4-series, a significant portion of what you are paying for is its distinctive appearance. This is especially important in regions such as California, where the 3-series has the potential to be one of the most popular selling cars. The 428xi Gran Coupe (“GC”) is lower and more svelte, although it really needs the optional 19-inch wheels to fill the more voluptuous fender forms. The 335xi, on the other hand, gets by just fine on 18s. When it comes to matters of taste, this decision is very much up to the individual.
When you open the door to the 428xi, the first thing you will notice is that the GC has frameless side glass and is a little more difficult to get into because the roof is lower. Once seated, the view is very similar: large swaths of material frame the high-resolution infotainment display (which is wider if the vehicle is equipped with navigation); the BMW sports seats are very supportive, and the steering wheel is superb to hold. Despite the fact that the current software suite has a lot of trouble working with iProducts, the iDrive interface has become the industry standard in terms of how simple it is to use and how quickly data can be entered. Although some of the smaller pieces and moldings that are hard to notice fall short of BMW’s usual standards, many of the materials used are of the highest quality, and even the faux leather that comes as standard is convincing. This is rumored to have been resolved with the upcoming model year refresh for 2016, which will take place in 2016.
