About Dodge RAM Pick-up
The RAM has consistently been at the top of the game when it comes to capability, durability, and luxury in a pickup truck. It’s tough to sit in the jungle all day and still be able to go places that other weak-willed pickup trucks can’t. Starting with soft leather, a large cabin, and superb workmanship, the luxury exudes the American ideal. The drive is smooth and effortless thanks to a rotary dial mechanism and the engine’s massive level of power. The RAM truck can tow up to 8,400 pounds thanks to a 5.7-liter V6 Hemi engine paired to an eight-speed automatic 845RE Transmission. Enough to propel that boat above the speed limit on the highway. Six airbags, a rearview camera, electronic stability, and a tire monitoring system are among the standard safety features. There’s no other way to travel with them.
The fourth generation Dodge Ram was unveiled during the 2008 North American International Auto Show in Detroit. The 2009 Dodge Ram 1500 was debuted in the fall of 2008. Later versions such as the 2500, 3500, 4500, and 5500 were added to the portfolio. The Ram Trucks brand was split from Dodge in 2010.
For the 2009 model year, Chrysler LLC tried to keep the Ram competitive in the market by adding a new four-door cab type, updated suspension, a new hemi engine option, and the Rambox, a novel storage system that permits secure storage inside the truck’s bed walls. The Rambox system is now integrated with the remote keyless entry system on later versions.
Because GM and Ford eliminated manual gearboxes for North American vehicles in 2006 and 2010, respectively, Ram 2500/3500 models have been touted as having a “class-exclusive” manual transmission option since 2011. This generation’s manual transmission remained available until the end of manufacture in 2018.
The Ram 1500, Mega Cab, 2500/3500, DX Chassis Cab (Mexico Market), and 4500/5500 are built at FCA’s Saltillo Assembly Plant in Coahuila, Mexico, while the Ram 1500 (DT) is built at Sterling Heights Assembly (SHAP) in Sterling Heights, Michigan. Warren Truck Assembly in Warren, Michigan previously assembled the Ram 1500 (DS).
On the 1500, the Mega Cab option was dropped in favor of a proper four-door crew cab. Regular cab and Quad Cab are the other cab options. The Mega Cab option, as well as the crew cab, are still available on the heavy-duty vehicles. The rear seats may now recline, thanks to advancements over the previous model.
Towing capacity for the 2009 Ram 1500 with regular cab, long-bed, 5.7 L Hemi engine, 3.92 differential, and 17-inch wheels was originally rated at 9,100 lb (4,128 kg), but it was increased to 10,450 lb (4,740 kg) without changing the setup. Payload was increased by 50 lb (23 kg) to 1,900 lb (862 kg) for the regular cab 2WD model with the 3.7-liter V6
With 17-inch wheels, the normal cab Ram 1500 with 3.21 differential has a towing capacity of 6,100 lb (2,767 kg) and 5,900 lb (2,676 kg) with 19-inch wheels. The weight ratings for the Crew Cab and Quad Cab versions are 5,700 lb (2,585 kg) and 5,800 lb (2,631 kg), respectively.
