About Mercedes-Benz SL320

The new Mercedes-Benz R129 roadster was first introduced to the Australian market with the 300SL and 500SL models, with only the eight cylinder variant available throughout the R129 model’s entire production run from 1989 to 2001. The six-cylinder 300SL 24 was replaced in 1995 by the SL 280, followed by the SL 320 in 1999, and the twelve-cylinder 600SL was introduced in 1993, changing to the SL 600 in 1995, with the last SL 600 delivered in 2000. Only 38 600SL/SL 600 cars were delivered to the Australian market.

Not every engine was available in North America. The base model for the 1990 Mercedes-Benz SL was the 228 hp 300 SL (European 300 SL-24) with a five-speed manual or five-speed automatic transmission, but it was the 322 hp 500 SL (with a 5.0-litre V8 engine) that grabbed the most attention. The 600 SL was also introduced in the United States for the 1993 model year. In the United States, the SL 320 replaced the 300 SL in 1994, but the SL 280 was not available. In 1998, the 6-cylinder SLs were dropped from the US lineup, leaving only the V8 and V12.

After a brief hiatus, the SL 73 AMG was offered from 1997 to 2001 with the new M297 engine 7.3 litres (7,291 cc), with a bore x stroke of 91.5 mm 92.4 mm (3.60 in 3.64 in) DOHC 4 valves per cylinder, fuel fed by naturally aspirated Bosch HFM fuel injection and a compression ratio of 10.5:1, producing 518 hp (525 PS; 386 kW) (199 mph). Only 85 cars were produced. (Source: Wiki)
