About Volkswagen GTI

The Gol G2 was available in the following trim levels: 1000i, 1000i Plus, CL, GL, Furgo (Wagon), and GTi (which had an 8-valve engine until 1996, when it was replaced by a more powerful, German-built 16-valve version), with 1.0, 1.6, 1.8, and 2.0 liter engines. Ford supplied the 1.0 as part of the AutoLatina collaboration. There were two special editions of the Gol G2. The first, “Gol Rolling Stones,” was released in 1995 to commemorate the band’s leg of the “Voodoo Lounge Tour” in Brazil. The following year saw the release of “Gol Atlanta” (after the Olympic Games). Volkswagen began producing its own 1.0 engine, known as the AT-1000, in November 1996. This version was derived from their larger 1.6 engine (999 cc). (Source: Wiki)
