About Chevrolet C2500 HD
The C/K series of pickup trucks was produced by General Motors from the model year 1960 all the way up through the model year 2002. The Chevrolet and GMC divisions were responsible for the marketing of the C/K series vehicles, which included a diverse lineup of automobiles. Despite the fact that this model line is most often associated with pickup trucks, it also comprised chassis-cab trucks, medium-duty trucks, and served as the foundation for GM’s full-size sport utility vehicles. During the entirety of its manufacturing run, the model line engaged in head-to-head competition with both the Ford F-Series and the Dodge D-Series (later the Dodge Ram pickup).
The letter “C” indicated two-wheel drive, whereas the letter “K” indicated four-wheel drive and was used for both the model branding and the internal model code. There were four distinct iterations of the model line that were manufactured, including the “Action Line” and “Rounded Line” automobiles of the second and third generations, respectively. GMC rebranded themselves for the fourth generation, switching to a single nameplate that simply read “GMC Sierra” (albeit the C/K designation was kept as an internal model code).
In South America, the model line was produced by General Motors de Argentina from 1960 until 1978, by Sevel Argentina from 1986 until 1991, and by General Motors Brazil from 1964 until 2001. General Motors Brazil produced variants of the model line for Brazil, Argentina, and Chile. Sevel Argentina produced the line from 1986 until 1991.
Upon entering the 1990s, General Motors changed their truck lineup by exchanging its medium-duty C/K trucks for the Chevrolet Kodiak and the GMC TopKick. This change took effect in 1990. In 1999, General Motors discontinued the C/K pickup trucks of the fourth generation and replaced them with an entirely new model range. In conjunction with GMC, Chevrolet also discontinued the C/K moniker (in favor of a singular Chevrolet Silverado nameplate). The final C/K pickup trucks were manufactured for the model year 2000, after having been first sold alongside its successor. Heavy-duty chassis cab trucks were the last vehicles produced as part of the C/K model line, which ran from 2001 to 2002.
The first-generation C/K debuted a number of design changes for General Motors light-truck design when it was introduced in the fall of 1959 as a 1960 model. The C/K, which replaced the Task Force range, was designed from the start as a truck chassis, with no commonality with the GM A-body platform. Though designed as a truck for durability, the C/K incorporated several car features into its design to increase its functionality. C/K trucks used a drop-center frame for pickup trucks, allowing for a lower cab and lower center of gravity, and independent front suspension was paired with a coil-sprung rear axle. Front torsion bars were replaced by front coil springs in 1963. (on two-wheel drive vehicles).
