About Chevrolet Blazer
In 2023, General Motors will begin production of the Chevrolet Blazer EV, a battery electric mid-size crossover SUV that will be sold under the Chevrolet brand. The range of the vehicle is estimated to be 510 kilometers (320 miles). It is scheduled to go into production in the fall of 2023 at the GM factory located in Ramos Arizpe, Mexico.
There will be four different trim levels available for the Blazer EV: 1LT, 2LT, RS, and SS. The Chevy Safety Assist suite of driver assistance technologies is standard, and drivers can choose to upgrade to the Super Cruise semi-autonomous driving system as an option. The Blazer SS is the first electric Chevrolet to wear the SS badge, and it is rated at 557 horsepower (565 PS; 415 kW) and 648 lb-ft (879 Nm; 89.6 kg-m) of torque. The Blazer SS also becomes the first electric Chevrolet to wear the SS badge. The Blazer SS has a mode called “Wide Open Watts” (WOW), which enables it to travel 97 kilometers (60 miles) in less than four seconds. Beginning in the first quarter of 2024, a model of a police pursuit vehicle will be made available.
Since the first appearance of the nameplate in 1969, the Chevrolet Blazer has been something of a shape shifter. In the middle of the 1980s, Chevrolet changed the body style of the Blazer from a full-size, truck-based two-door called the K5 to a more compact SUV body style that was based on the S-10 pickup. Then, in the early 2000s, Chevrolet introduced the mid-size TrailBlazer, which later spawned an LS V-8–powered SS model. Finally, in 2019, Chevrolet brought back the Blazer nameplate on a sharply styled crossover vehicle. Now Chevy is repurposing the name for an all-new electric SUV, which will arrive for the 2024 model year with a range of up to 320 miles and the resurrection of the SS badge on a 557-horsepower performance model. This SUV will arrive for the model year 2024.
The Blazer EV is available in four trim levels—1LT, 2LT, RS, and SS—and a dizzying array of powertrain options. The 1LT, 2LT, and RS all come standard with front-wheel drive, with the 1LT able to travel an estimated 247 miles on a single charge. All-wheel drive is optional on the 2LT and RS, and the 2LT has a maximum range of 293 miles depending on battery size. The RS will also be available in rear-wheel drive, and with the right battery and drivetrain, it will be capable of traveling up to 320 miles.
